Pride in another city, a long weekend with your boyfriend, a beach week with the boys: the lube comes along. Here's what you need to know about hand luggage rules, leaky bottles and the right lube for holidays.

Short answer: Yes, you can take lube in your hand luggage. In the EU it counts as a liquid, so each container can hold max. 100 ml and has to go into your clear liquids bag. A 100 ml tube is fine.

Lube in hand luggage: the rules

For airport security, lube is a liquid or gel, just like shampoo or toothpaste. For flights from EU airports the standard rule is:

  • Max. 100 ml per container. What counts is the size printed on the container, not how much is left inside.
  • Everything in one clear, resealable bag of about 1 litre, one bag per person.
  • Take the bag out at security if they ask you to.

All three wettr lubes come in 100 ml, so they fit the rule. Some airports with new scanners handle liquids differently, and rules outside the EU can vary. Check your airport's website before you fly. And if the security person looks a bit too long at your bag: it's lube. They've seen worse.

Tip Checked luggage has no 100 ml limit. If you only travel with a suitcase, just pack it there, ideally in a zip bag.

Packing without leaks

  • Zip bag. Always. Pressure changes in the plane can push liquid out of any bottle.
  • Close it properly. Tube caps snapped shut, pump bottles turned to closed or taped if they don't lock.
  • Not in direct sun. Don't leave lube in a hot car or baking on the beach towel all day. Cool and shaded is best.

Hotel and Airbnb: small things that help

  • Towel down. Silicone lube can leave marks on fabric. Hotel sheets are not your problem, but you know. Be nice to housekeeping.
  • Shower sex: water washes water-based lube away fast. Silicone stays put, but makes the floor slippery too. Hold on to something.
  • Pool and sea: nice idea, less nice reality. Chlorine and salt water dry you out, sand gets everywhere. Save it for the room.

The Pride trip packing list

  • Lube (100 ml, in your liquids bag)
  • Condoms, more than you think you need
  • Any medication you take, in your hand luggage, enough for the whole trip
  • Sunscreen, water bottle, power bank
  • Earplugs for the hotel next to the club
  • Something rainbow. PROUD AS F*CK socks count, with a message on the soles for later
Safety first Lube is legal pretty much everywhere. Being openly queer is not. Before you travel, check your government's travel advice for the country and how safe it is for LGBTQ+ travellers, and be careful with apps in places where it isn't.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take lube in my hand luggage?

Yes. At EU airports lube counts as a liquid: max. 100 ml per container, packed in your clear liquids bag of about 1 litre.

Is a 100 ml tube allowed?

Yes, 100 ml is exactly the limit. All wettr lubes come in 100 ml.

Can lube leak on the plane?

Pressure changes can push liquid out of any bottle. Close it properly and pack it in a zip bag, then nothing happens to your clothes.

Which lube is best for holidays?

Water-based like Smooth Operator for everything, silicone like Overtime if water is involved. If you want both: Double Trouble.

Does sun or heat damage lube?

Store it cool and out of direct sun, like most cosmetics. A day in a hot car or on the beach towel is not ideal.

Do I need to declare lube at customs?

Not for normal personal amounts. A tube or two for your trip is just personal care.
