People ask us this a lot, usually with a grin: "Who came up with Backstage Pass?" Fair question. None of our names are random. Every one of them says what the product is for, with a wink. And you had a say too.

Short version: Smooth Operator is the smooth everyday glide. Overtime is for when things go into overtime. Backstage Pass is your pass to the back door. Just In Case is for, well, just in case. And the names and designs of Overtime, Backstage Pass and Just In Case? You helped pick them: in autumn 2025, over 200 of you voted on Instagram.

First: why "wettr"?

Before any product had a name, the brand needed one. "wettr" landed in early 2024: wet, obviously, plus a nod to Wetter, the German word for weather. A lube brand that sounds like a forecast. We liked it immediately, and it stuck.

The names, decoded

Smooth Operator

Our first product and still our everyday hero. A water-based lube that glides smoothly, works with condoms and toys and washes off with water. A smooth operator is someone who makes everything look easy. That's the job description.

Overtime

Some nights end early. Others go into overtime. Overtime is our silicone lube: long-lasting, silky and water-resistant, for exactly those nights, the shower included. The name was obvious once we said it out loud.

Backstage Pass

Backstage is where the real stuff happens, and not everyone gets in. Backstage Pass is our anal relax gel: water-based, with oat and hops extract and a light cooling feel, made for a more relaxed start. Your pass to the back door. We don't think we need to explain that one any further.

Just In Case

Spontaneous plans, a date that goes better than expected, a weekend away. Just In Case are single-use lube sachets that fit in any pocket, wallet or toiletry bag. Because you never know. (Currently sold out, sorry.)

You were part of it

We didn't come up with all of this alone in a meeting room. Smooth Operator was already out there. But in autumn 2025, while our new range was in development, we let our community vote in our Instagram stories: over 200 of you chose between different names and packaging designs for Overtime, Backstage Pass and Just In Case. Which look, which name, which version felt more like wettr. What's on those products today is the result. So if you voted back then: thank you. A bit of that bottle is yours.

Good names don't need a manual. If you get it with a grin, it works.

And the socks?

Nobody voted on the socks. They're our own idea, and a pretty simple one: say who you are, with a wink, and let the people who get it, get it.

Every pair works on two levels. The name on the cuff, and a hidden message on the sole that nobody sees until the shoes come off. Secret's in the sole. On top of that there's the stripe code: the blue stripe on top for TOP ENERGY, at the bottom for POWER BOTTOM, two stripes for VERS. PROUD AS F*CK skips the code and goes full rainbow, because pride doesn't whisper.

No explaining, no apologising. Wear them to the office, to the gym or to a date that's going better than planned. Whoever gets to see the sole has earned the message. Crew socks, one size (EU 39-45 / UK 6-10.5), 78% cotton, 20% polyester, 2% spandex.

If you want the history behind it: the idea goes back to the gay hanky code. We wrote about that in The Hanky Code, Then and Now.

Tip Can't pick one name? The Starter Kit lets you choose 3 lubes, saves you 15% and comes with free socks. And with the lube subscription your favourite shows up before the bottle is empty.

Frequently asked questions

What does wettr mean?

It's "wet" plus a nod to the German word "Wetter" (weather). Short, cheeky and easy to remember.

Why is it called Backstage Pass?

Backstage Pass is our anal relax gel. The name is a wink: it's your pass to the back door.

Why is it called Overtime?

Overtime is our silicone lube. It stays slippery for a long time, for when things go into overtime.

Did customers really help choose the names?

Yes, for our new range. In autumn 2025, while Overtime, Backstage Pass and Just In Case were in development, we ran a vote in our Instagram stories. Over 200 of you chose between different names and packaging designs, and what's on those products today is the result. Smooth Operator was around before that.

Did you vote on the socks too?

No. The socks are our own idea: a wink for everyone who knows what top, bottom and vers mean. The name sits on the cuff, and there's a hidden message on the sole.
